Hanasaku Iroha Episode 1 and First Impressions
So this anime is a “slice of life” but not in a comedic sense,(although i’m sure the anime will have its funny moments) but more of a drama sense and gives some real world look into the series of what may happen in japan.The main girl Ohana is actually a well though out character and i can see how she can relate to other people,in a way she sort of thinks like some of us,with the whole I shouldn’t worry about my future thing and how she likes to make jokes,and how she said I’ve always wanted an elderly lady to give out candy,is something similar i would have said too if it happen out of nowhere.
I enjoy how everyone acts,everyone in the anime all seem
different from each other so you already know who they are and makes it easier to understand them. I’m guessing the anime is made for older audience like seinen anime,becuase they use a lot of big words like pragmatic and pessimistic,which i know what they mean but it slows me down from understanding…or it can always be the sub group as well.so far well i cant say i like the series yet,i just saw the first episode and im still trying to figure out everything,but like i said i do like how ohana is,she has a cool personalty that seems real and she isn’t shallow or shy like most anime girls.
this anime has some good potential and i,ll be the next anime i will be watching soon.

Pancake’s Anime Reviews
Yuyushiki Episode 7
As winter break comes to a close for the girls,they try to make the most of there free time,by being random and enjoying the cold weather.Episode 7 was another funny episode that yet captures the funny and cute world of yuyushiki,this episode is more of a formulated episode with different segments with jokes in-between that made this episode more organized,than others.
compared to other episodes this one had somewhat less yuri jokes and had a lot more original jokes this time.not much else to say really,watch the episode if you haven’t its really great and much better than the last episode,but hey don’t i always say that?
either way i can’t wait for the new episode,this series is looking really great so far and may catch on pretty soon.
Pancake’s Anime Reviews- Another 7.5/10 Early 2012
(Contains spoilers…to save you trouble,the anime is great but not perfect,still it is much better than most horror animes)
Introduction - ”Another?” yeah try telling that to a fellow otaku,at first the name seems very odd but it all makes sense as you watch the anime.I’m somewhat squeamish when it comes to this type of genre,but hey this anime is pretty good. to be honest there isn’t much to talk about here,however this anime proves that it doesn’t matter what genre you are into,as long as the story and characters can bring a good anime then it shouldn’t matter.That being said this anime does fall a little short in some area that keeps it from being a prefect anime.Content- The anime is called “Another” it contains 12 original episodes with an OVA known as episode 0,which is basically a prequel to the series. the main series was released early in 2012 with the OVA shortly after,i suggest watching the OVA afterwards,but chronologically the OVA is first.This anime is a horror/mystery anime and despite not being into either one of the genre,this anime proved to me that it doesn’t matter what genre it is,an anime can be good no matter what the story or setting can be. still a fair warning to everyone who isn’t into horror/mystery,you still may not like it. The anime also contains some romance in it as well,and some light hearten moments to break up the pacing of the gloomy world “Another” presents the viewer.The series also shows it’s dark theme that center around it,such as death,ignorance, the feeling of lost and, mob mentality.Rather than explaining the themes,the anime is more about demonstrating them and showing examples of what happens when people start to believe in ideas and turn against other peoples for it. this whole concept is similar to the witch trials in Salem,where the town’s people had to get rid of witches but end up killing innocent people just becuase of false accusation and the mob mentality of believing in those ideas. However even as the anime did a great job showing this,it still feel short on telling an excellent story that can bring them together and make a satisfying conclusion.
Plot- (spoilers)The anime takes place somewhere in the 1990s as a new student by the name Koichi,sakakibara transfers to yomiyama. however he did not join the class right away as he was stuck in the hospital for a while due an illness,before leaving the hospital he was stopped by izumi, a school girl that is in charge of the countermeasure. at first it is not revealed what the countermeasure is suppose to do,but it shows that they are suppose to protect the students from the curse that plagues the class later on.Speaking of curse the main plot of the anime revolves around a curse of class-3 that kills students and people involved in the classroom,students believe the curse starts when a new transfer student enters the class,in order to replace a dead one.the students believe it was a student name mei,misaki who is supposedly dead already,which leads every student to ignore her and to treat her as she outdoes exist in order for the curse to stay dormant,however koichi begins to befriends mei,even after being warned not to even talk to her,which makes the student believe the curse is awaken when of the students died in an accident,thus opens up the plot for the rest of the episodes as the students try to find out what is behind the curse and how to stop it,which leads to ignorance and violence.The plot can keep you into the anime as well,as they uncover another clue the anime becomes part mystery,which can be fun to watch and creates a lot of drama for the anime.Most of the plot is purely supernatural and you will see how some parts of the plot is not even relateable to real life,then again its common in anime if this genre.
Animation/Art-The animation is done by P.A works,an animation company fairy popular,and known for animes such as angel beats,and hanasaku iroha.This anime truly does have amazing animation and incredible uses of lighting that can create the dark gloomy world,along with excellent color which is expected for an anime of 2012.Art for the anime resembles much like older animes during the early to mid 2000s but still keeps itself pretty original and recognizable.One thing to note is the camera angles the anime uses,such as first person views,and even some CGI for certain scenes,which is pretty new to me and its a cool thing to see an anime.
Music/voice-One word,Perfect the anime gets a lot of points on music,now the music doesn’t have to be melody based,or have a certain beat to it,this is a horror anime and the music does its job perfectly to change your mood and become somewhat nervous,along with the sound effects and you got a great atmosphere that makes you feel like if you were there too.As for the voice actors/actresses they do an excellent job and can keep you on the edge of your seat,and becomes very believable in what they do,when they scream,when they shout and when they cry,its all done perfectly.
Appeal- A major appeal to this anime is the characters,they are well though out have decent back story to them. Mei is the character who is the memorable,due to her appearance with her eyepatch and her personalty that can give off that mysterious but curious feel to the character,it can also be a good assumption that her character design may have influenced rikka’s design in chunnibyou due to very similar appearances.
final opinion - i believe the anime doesn’t rely on overused jump-scares or gory imagery as much,instead it builds up the fear and suspension by carefully working the sound and music to create that gloomy and frightening atmosphere,as soon as you hear a conversation,the music slowly build up making anyone nervous since its something that affects naturally. the people behind the anime probably knew how to get the most out of the viewers when it came to this,and did an excellent job pulling our fears and feeling of anxiety,of course this shows that we even care for the characters,and tells us that the anime did a great job fleshing out the characters,but also leaving us with little information to keep it mysterious. sadly this also backfires a little bit as i felt they used it to create plot twist that can come out of nowhere,but can be justifiable because we were not told in previous episodes,its like an a popular anime where a plot twist can happen and the viewer is confused,but then a flash back shows a character doing something that was never known to the viewer until it was revealed by the flashback.even with that flaw,it is only an assumption of mine can i felt could have been different to get a better ending.The anime is a good one, especially in its own genre,it can teach us a few things but can still lack real meaning behind it and leaves us with mixed feelings,so do i recommend this anime?….in short yes,but not to everyone obviously, i think its still worth watching,and the ones who enjoy horror will get more out of it than i did,and for the ones who aren’t into horror anime,i say its a good start,if you seriously want to watch one,but please follow the age ratings it was put there for a reason. with that i leave the review,i hope you guys enjoyed reading the review,peace. Thoughts on XBOX ONE ,motion gaming and future of console gamers.
well its too early to judge and hardware specs seem similar to the ps4,but i do admit the design looks a bit bulky and boxy,and i feel they may have done that,so they can release a slim version later on.the controller looks nice and keeps a similar design to the 360.the whole idea for this console war seems about how many features can your console have,well xbox one is like a cable tv and you skype as well while playing games….like i’m going to use that. at the end of the day they want to make the most money and appeal to everyone else and become an ultimate entertainment box that does it all,hence the name xbox one(all in one) its a clever name too,the word one also sounds like the word won,and another popular slogan can be,xbox one,there can only be one,but by this point it doesn’t seem to be for gamers at this point and i feel like the whole gaming console market will switch and change to become home entertainment for a living room,rather than an actual video game console for a personal bedroom.still its way too early to start judging based on this information but its still enough information to at least share some thoughts and predictions.
one thing that stood out to me,was the potential for the xbox kinect,and yeah the kinect on the 360 was pretty much a joke to actual gamers,with horrible party games in order to take away from the wii’s market,but i believe this time the new kinect has potential.At the reveal they talked about how the kinect doesn’t just see your movements and copies them,but actually scans different aspects of the human body,such as joints,muscles and even heartbeats. Instead of making another party game,just think of what type of future games you can create with this tool.here is an example,think of a horror game,but you already played it so its not really as scary or you may know every trick,but the kinect will be able to detect you’re heart beat.Perhaps when your heartbeat goes faster the game will get scarier,the music starts to change and you will feel scared and have a great horror experience,it can even be great for dating sims and give it a realistic vibe to it. Same with muscles,they can make a perfect fighting game,and as your muscles get tired or warmed up it will show in the kinect’s camera and can be used to time a special attack. i truly think if done correctly the kinect can really change the way we played game,however the actual possibly of any of these ideas will be slim,its the same with the current version of kinect. the ps move also did not use its motion controls as well with only a few games that used it to enhance gameplay such as killzone.However the wii was a bit luckier with different types of successful games that used the wii mote to slice objects and had great fps titles that used motion such as golden eye wii,conduit,and even call of duty. yes say what you will about the wii,but hey if those fps were successful on a primitive version of motion gaming,then why not on ps move and kinect,they even seem better but do not.
like i said,i feel like gaming machines are trying to be like computers that can do everything,it made sense with the ps2 like “oh i can play games and watch a DVD that way my parents will want to buy one”.then they added the internet too,but now it’s soo much stuff and its like”am i really going to skype with someone on my HD tv..?” i am playing a video game so i can spend some time by myself or online play with someone.
sadly i saw a post about how social gaming like farmvile games are making more money than halo and mario would make in a year now,and notice how nintendo is even losing money and many of the big gaming companies have fallen over the years,and with a disappointing nintendo direct,i am really fearful about what can happen to the major gaming companies and they may have to step down.still,its all very early and its just my thoughts so please do not take it very seriously..i just feel like the companies aren’t really in the green zone anymore in the gaming market and can get worse from here. hopefully this E3 will rock,and bring relief into us gamers,and let us know who makes the best games… i’m looking at you nintendo,you were the one who even brought console gaming back into american after the crash in the early 80s.
